our environsChante Bise sits on a hill overlooking Hernicourt, a small hamlet outside the town of St. Pol sur Ternoise, in the Pas de Calais.
There is an extensive file in the house of the many things to do and places to visit within easy reach of Chante Bise, ranging from water skiing, golf, canoeing, to shopping, sight-seeing and of course enjoying French cuisine. Below we highlight just a few of them to give you a flavour of the area.
AzincourtAzincourt, site of the battle of Agincourt is nearby with a hands on museum. ArrasArras has a market every Saturday in the main square and a beautiful Christmas market from the end of November. Underneath the city are chalk mines that were used by Scottish and New Zealand soldiers during World War I. You can take a tour of these mines and then go to the top of the belfry for a fantastic view of the city and the surrounding area. There is white water rafting in an old hydro electric dam on the outskirts of the city. It is run by an ex member of the French olympic canoeing squad. You can also hire a canoe and travel along the canal that runs from Arras. Berck-sur-merBerck-sur-mer on the Côte dOpale is famous for its kite festival. The large beach is fantastic for flying kites. BermicourtLa Cour de Remi is 5 minutes drive from Chante Bise in the hamlet of Bermicourt. It is run by two local brothers who have spent the last few years working in Paris. the restaurant is very modern and the food is fantastic. Again it is advisable to book in advance. Côte dOpaleThe Côte dOpale is 45 minutes away from Chante Bise. There are a number of resorts including Le Touquet and Berck-sur-mer. Between Le Touquet and Berck-sur-mer is the Bagatelle theme park. La CoupoleThe V2 rocket base at La Coupole is within easy reach. HernicourtThe village of Hernicourt has trout fishing, you can buy a permit at the Maire. HesdinHesdin has lots of shops and restaurants. LoisinordTry the water-skiing at Loisinord. Loisinord is a man made lake in an old mining town near Arras. There is water-skiing, boating, crazy golf, a small beach and swimming area and a dry ski slope. Montreuil-sur-merMontreuil is a walled, medieval town. It is the setting for the musical Les Miserables. It has a market every Saturday morning in the square and a number of very good restaurants. Olhain ParkYou can live in the trees for a day or two in Olhain Park - your feet never touch the ground. There's a moated castle here too. St. Pol-sur-TernoiseSt. Pol has lots of shops for all your needs. There is a market every Monday morning. There are various places to eat and drink. The Café de la Poste has a micro brewery making its own beer. It is good value for lunch and dinner. La Poutriere is a little restaurant serving traditional French food as well as pizzas and pasta. They offer a takeaway pizza service. It is a small restaurant and is very popular with the locals so it is best to book in advance. There is an open air swimming pool in the town, remember that as with all French public pools, men and boys must wear proper swimming trunks. The racing circuit La Croix is on the outskirts of St. Pol. Le TouquetLe Touquet is a fashionable seaside resort on the Côte dOpale, with plenty of small boutiques. It has a number of golf courses and Aquaclub de Belle Dune, a heated water centre with flumes. VimyAt Vimy you can visit the Canadian memorial to the battle of Vimy Ridge. There are many other places to visit relating to World War I.
